The Battle of Mount Longdon was one of three battles (the other two being the Battles of Two Sisters and Mount Harriet) fought on the night of June 11th to June 12th, 1982.

British forces in this battle consisted of 3 PARA (about 450 troops) under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Hew Pike, with support from six 105mm guns of 29 29 Commando Regiment, Royal Artillery, and with 2 PARA in reserve. Additionally, naval gunfire support was provided by HMS Avenger.

Argentine forces consisted of B Company of the 7th Infantry Regiment (RI 7), as well as detachment from other units, totally around 280 troops. Although mostly conscripts, RI 7 troops had had a year of training, and around 50 had been trained on a commando course. Furthermore RI 7 were well-equipped and their fully automatic FAL rifles were able to deliver more firepower than the British SLRs.

The fighting of the battle was bloody and brutal. British forces suffered 23 killed and 47 wounded, and won the 2nd Victoria Cross of the campaign (Sergeant Ian Mckay) as well as Distinguished Service Order, two Military Crosses, two Distinguished Conduct Medals, three Military Medals and numerous Mentions in Despatches. The Argentines suffered 31 killed, 120 wounded, and 50 of their troops were captured.
